5. Hematic SunsetsAroma Club Paradox 4

Hematic Sunsets is an anagram of Asmus Tietchens, who I discovered when I moved to Germany about seven years ago. This has definitely shifted the way I think about music. And I’ve been analysing his music deeply, as much as I can. What is it about it that I’m so connected with? It’s to do with how he uses rhythm. It’s super important in his music, but it’s all very abstract – he doesn’t have any percussion instruments, it’s all sequenced. I took that from his music and applied it in my music, trying to grasp the essence of music I listened to as a kid like bolero, and tried to turn them into sequenced rhythms. This one is so light and beautiful. There’s this track called ‘Tristesse Aromatique’ which really shows how great he is working within and beyond a pop structure.
