2. RushMoving Pictures

2112 was probably the first Rush album that my friend played me, but Moving Pictures had just come out, so we had a few albums that we were feverishly comparing to each other. To me it’s just a perfect record, perfect production. As a three piece, Rush have always been that band where each instrument has its place, dynamically, and Geddy Lee is one of my favourite bass players. Again, lots of emotion. I think emotion is one of the key things for me over the years, trying to make music, and Rush, again, were never afraid to try something different, they always seemed to be very current with the records that they did.

I think it might have been the Roll The Bones tour that I saw them on. I think Primus supported them; I was happy about that too, I like Primus a lot. But yeah, just a great band. I like all their records really but there’s something about Moving Pictures for me. It’s got an amazing sound, and I think Neil Peart’s lyrics were always just really from the heart. I relate to that, I think lyrics need to mean something personal, in some ways. Something that you have lived through or feel you can reflect on.
