13. RepulsionHorrified

A class record. They were around the same time as Napalm Death and it was really weird when I joined; it was Napalm Death, Repulsion, and a few other bands across Europe. No-one really knew Repulsion apart from the people that were tape-trading, but for us they were creating something really, really interesting. The bass sound was all distorted and was for sure an influence on my bass sound. I remember talking to Micky and a few of the guys from Napalm about trying to put a gig on for them and somehow fly them over to England, but it was totally impossible, at least at that time.

They were a massive influence on us, and when we eventually toured the States I got to meet the guys and became good friends with them, so that was a bonus. Some people think Repulsion were grindcore before Napalm, but I don’t know, we were just kind of doing the same thing at the same time – well, similar things anyway, for sure. That’s one of the great things about being able to do what I’ve done, which is I’ve managed to become friends with a lot of the bands I listened to in my early days, travel the world and do what I’ve dreamed of doing.
