Look into the Shadows: Peter Murphy’s Favourite Albums

Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Massive AttackMezzanine

Mezzanine isn’t just an album, it’s a happening. It’s music that seeps, slowly, into the bloodstream. The production is immense, industrial yet so intimate. Elizabeth’s work on ‘Teardrop’ is exquisite, like the ghost of a memory, a haunting spell. A cathedral of post industrial soul, existential trip hop, beauty and excellence in timeless mood. I still listen to it to this day and it’s just as powerful.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Sarah Nixey, Objekt, Martha Wainwright
