A unique visionary album that came out of nowhere, it seemed. He used the trumpet in a way no one had heard before. What struck me is how it wasn’t jazz, it wasn’t world music , it was something in between – or outside – of all that. It’s not trying to impress you or make a point, it just unfolds, and if you stay with it, it gets under your skin. It’s music that operates on a different clock.
