Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

Oh God. My favourite of all his records. This is about the strings. I adore string arranging because there’s this moment when you’ve transferred the music on the page to this overwhelming, beautiful sound and there’s a physical, adrenal rush to it. I get this shiver-down-the-spine feeling. I know I’ve gone wrong if I don’t get that. When I first heard this album, with the arrangements from Wally Stott and Scott’s voice – it’s just stayed with me. And the story of Wally Stott, changing her name to Angela Morley and going on to make all those recordings and having that incredible career, is a huge influence.

There’s a pattern in your choices, each informed by some element of your own musicality, your own art-making processes. Like this next one shows something different again…

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Blanck Mass, Johnny Dean of Menswear, Mark Morriss, Simon Raymonde
