Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. John FoxxMetamatic

This is the first record where I had to learn it and play it live and tour with it, after my first solo album, and John Foxx really encouraged me to learn how to play synths – two-handed, live, to play electric violin and to just make as much noise as possible. Distortion, dirtiness. He’s still in that mode of pushing boundaries, too, and at that time I really appreciated someone giving me the license to do that.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Mark Gatiss, Adult.
