13. Sun RaThe Singles

Nobody created his own world more perfectly than Sun Ra. On hearing those singles, as much as you thought one knew about the breadth of jazz there’s this space age vocalist doing these insane r & b songs about Batman and doo wop Christmas songs. Sun Ra can, and did, just do anything and managed to keep this band together over such a period of time with so little support from the world. Super human. We saw the Arkestra playing at one of our Hanukkah shows in December and it was incredible. Always incredible.
