I’ve danced a lot to this album in Africa, especially when I was younger. I’ll tell you something, the day Bob Marley died my whole family was in shock, and I spent the whole day crying, I didn’t eat, I was on hunger strike. It affected me as if it was my brother who had died. And I think it was the same for a lot of young Africans at the time. And although we didn’t really understand what he was singing, it was the rhythm, and the emotion in his voice that reached into us to such an extent that we understood without really understanding the words. Personally I found his voice thrilling. Especially ‘Get Up, Stand Up’, oh my god, we danced like crazy to that. But later I understood that it was about standing up for your rights. Bob was a phenomenon.
