Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Oumou SangareMogoya Remixed

I’m someone who is very open, and this album shows that my voice can go to other places, not just staying within a tradition. The tradition is still there, but it also means that a younger generation can understand my music and my way of singing. I was very happy to meet Sampha, who remixed one of my songs ‘Minita Waraba’ and who even came to see me when I played in London. I wasn’t necessarily surprised by what people did with my music because I knew their work but it was just beautiful.
