Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Alpha BlondyJah Glory

I have to pick the mandingo reggae of my brother Alpha Blondy. I like the fact that he sings in Dioula on this album.

I used to dance to it, especially to the tracks ‘Bintou Wêrê-Wêrê’ and ‘Brigadier Sabari’. Those songs were huge hits at the time the album was released in the 80s – it transcended the boundaries of the Ivory Coast.

Alpha is a committed artist who fights against injustice throughout his music. He proudly represents one of the numerous African cultures.
