The cover hit me! That was a time when I wasn’t listening to much electronic music and I found there what I was feeling in doom metal. The interplay between piercing high frequencies and deep lows, the power of distortion. I almost find riffs in there, which could feel surprising for an artist with such an ascetic image. I listen to a lot of Pan Sonic as well of course, but this one has an atmosphere that sets it apart. Pan Sonic records opened up radical pathways where nobody really surpassed them. Even if the sound design has evolved since, they still have this shocking material quality to the sounds. It’s a pipe dream to get close to that, but this kind of demanding, bold aspect inspires us a lot for In Paradisum.
