13. Krzysztof PendereckiOrchestral Works

OK, I have some really geeky friends and one of them in particular; well we are both very big Twin Peaks fans. So Lynch uses Penderecki’s ‘Song For Hiroshima’ in one of the most important episodes of Twin Peaks in the third series; I think it’s episode eight, where the bomb goes off – that combination of the music with Lynch’s visuals… I really, really got it. And I thought, ‘Wow, this is some of Orchestral Works that I can really not only get into on a basic level but also feel quite emotionally connected to’. And a friend of mine was like, ‘Oh, I’ll send it to you’ because he found the album even though it wasn’t something he knew about either. So I listed to the album and the build-up and the drama of it is amazing. I love the idea that you can have people wait in silence and have a weird little drum roll somewhere and just build something – it’s like Lack in that respect. You don’t have to rush; you can just build up the drama. I totally felt the stories he was building in his tracks and I think that idea that you can build a story through sound is very much something that I held onto for my album.
