Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

3. Miles DavisLive Evil

This feels like the culminating document of the Teo Macero collage approach to creating records from the best moments of countless Miles Davis sessions both live and studio from Miles’ electric period – which I don’t think you can call "controversial" anymore. It’s just incredible music… it’s avant guard, free and brutal – everyone plays their asses off… and of course there are these really contemplative passages as well. I think the "Live" in the title might turn some people off of this record but you should pick it up – ASAP.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Graham Massey, Sean Lennon
