Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Midori TakadaThrough the Looking Glass

This record has enjoyed an interesting renaissance in recent years because many people have been discovering it thanks to YouTube’s suggested video algorithms.

That’s exactly how I discovered it. I remember that my husband and I made dinner for a friend, and we put some music on through YouTube – I can’t remember exactly what that was now. This was the next thing that came on, and we were all like ‘what is this?’ I like this album as a whole experience, and actually that’s something that’s been a more recent intention of mine – that when I discover a new album, I take time to understand them as a whole thing. It’s a totally different story when I want to dance though.
