This is a revelation. I’ve been lucky enough to see Kendrick a few times, and to watch his development as a lyricist and be part of his time. The conceptual nature of this record doesn’t compromise how much it bangs, and how beautiful these songs are. It’s like a Trojan horse, where people can be playing these songs anywhere, but underneath it is this perfectly executed lyrical declaration. I also love that he doesn’t tie up the conclusion, he leaves it open for you.
