Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. Charly GarcíaParte De La Religion

For most Spanish-speaking, Latin American musicians, Charly García is one of the big references in rock & roll, along with Soda Stereo and Luis Spinetta. I didn’t grow up listening to him because I grew up with Christian and classical music, but when I was a teenager, I met these musicians that loved him and I instantly connected with him. Charly García is a funny guy because he’s also a character, and he’s from Argentina and uses this jargon that I really enjoy listening to. He’s also a very technical, amazing piano player, he has good lyrics, he’s into a lot of synthesisers and groovy beats. This record has so many hits – ‘Adela En El Carrousell’ is amazing. He has many records that are amazing – Piano Bar, Clics Modernos.
