It’s hard for me to remember exactly when I heard her – I think with a couple of friends about three years ago. I was like, ‘Why do I know this music? I love these songs.’ And it was her cover of ‘Fire’ [by The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown]. It’s a perfect record: the sounds, the songs, the textures, there’s an experimental thing about it – it’s perfect. She made it in Jamaica and that changes the soul. She came into the vibe super fast, right? She was in the right place with that music. There’s something about the use of the instruments, with a very short decay –she took advantage of merging that with the post punk sound. Her energy is the best. And she was an art school girl – there’s something about artsy punk.
