Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

13. Whitney HoustonWhitney Houston

I got into this record when I was in secondary school back in Nigeria. A friend of mine brought me a cassette tape as a gift back from London, and my mum got me a Walkman. At secondary school you weren’t really allowed to listen to music after lights-out, you were supposed to be in bed, but I would stay up and listen to every song on the record. We had to do some kind of talent show, and I got to sing two songs from it: ‘All At Once’ and ‘Greatest Love Of All.’ That stuck with me – it would have been my introduction to wanting to sing.
