11. Eliane RadigueFeedback Works 1969-1970

This is brutal, but so beautiful and considered. With Éliane Radigue, pace is so important and measured. That’s a life lesson for me. She has very clear shifts in her career, in the way she’s worked and continues to work. I think her composition and imagination is exceptional, and it’s so wonderful to see her orchestral and instrumental works being appreciated. I have quite a lot of one-off radio recordings and performances she made – there’s a couple of French record stores that come to the Festival Météo in Mulhouse, and they bring these array of random Éliane Radigue CDs. They’re like “nobody wants these,” and I’m like “I want them!” With these feedback works, I like that she just started recording, and you can hear the ticking over in her brain – the decision process in real time.
