Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. Thomas DolbyShe Blinded Me With Science

…chosen by Dr Bunsen, Honeydew & Beaker BUNSEN: Beakie and I are usually so consumed by our quest for scientific progress, we rarely have time to enjoy the pleasures of music. However, one day while adjusting the Muppet Labs’ oscillator to detect gamma rays, we accidentally tuned into pirate radio and came across this categorically mesmerizing song by Thomas Dolby. ‘She Blinded Me With Science’ positively captured the essence of life in the lab: “I can hear machinery”… ”I can smell the chemicals” … The sphere’s are in commotion”… ”She failed me at biology”. After a long day of R&D experimentation and the occasional workplace mishap, nothing releases one’s pleasure enzymes like dancing to this song. Isn’t that right, Beakie?
BEAKER: Meep Meep Mee mee meep!!!
BUNSEN: You said it, Beakie – “Good heavens Miss Sakamoto – you’re beautiful!"
