Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. Diana JonesMy Remembrance Of You

My first choice is ‘Lay Me Down’, which I listen to in the car and just play over and over again and sing along with it. So, this second choice ‘All God’s Children’ is a strange one. I’m not religious but I lived in the South for twelve years, and there are so many Southern Baptists – they love to sing. You go to a singsong there and they’ll always end up either singing songs about death or God and I began to realise exactly how destroyed the South was after The American Civil War.

So, in choosing ‘All God’s Children’, I take it as it’s meant there, because it’s talking about this state of everybody being children. I understand this in the Southern sense and in the sense that whoever God is, we’re all nature’s children, we’re all humanity’s children.
