Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. Demon BoyzRecognition

A very big album for me in 1989. Heavy beats and cuts, and the two MCs, Demon D & Mike J, were a real double act, Demon D’s assured, deep delivery working well against Mike J’s more hyper, nimble style. DJ Devastate was astonishingly tight, both with the cuts, and the rhythm scratches and quotes that mesh perfectly with the hard, BDP-style drum tracks. The Music of Life 12"s were also useful for the bonus beats, which made it onto many of my early mixtapes.
