Of course, it’s the recent documentary that led to the inclusion of this tune. Up until watching that film I’d always fancied myself more of a John type, but then came that scene where only Ringo bothers showing up to rehearsal and Macca nearly starts crying, and I knew in a heartbeat the dreadful truth, I am a Paul person. It seems fairly explicit that no one really gives a fuck anymore, John barely speaks for the first hour, George is done playing the third wheel and Ringo is, well, only the drummer, yet onwards Paul ploughs. He just wants the lads to ‘rock it one more time’. Bless. At one point he bemoans the lack of order, of structure, what we need is a schedule, he claims. When John does finally open his mouth, a quarter of the way into episode two, he’s speaking in tongues. A tragi-comic disparity in the extreme. Every band, great or miniscule, needs someone pathologically uptight at its core.
