6. The MoveLooking On

It was the first album on Fly Records and it says Fly 1 on the label. It was a new label, with new energy and T. Rex were on it. I love the logo. There was a compilation called Bolan Boogie, when Marc was having his hits, so I am interested in Fly because of that. I didn’t get into The Move until quite recently, and by recently, I mean the last twenty years. I love Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood. Their track ‘Brontosaurus’ could have been a nod to T. Rex – dinosaurs must have been in the air!

I remember when The Move were on Top Of The Pops and they were performing ‘California Man’, which I think was their last single before they turned into ELO, but I only really like The Move with Jeff Lynne – it’s a better group. They were a great singles band. I think they were going for an underground sound, but Jeff and Roy couldn’t help writing pop songs: they had so much melody. I love them because they are from Birmingham as well.
