11. Tomaso AlbinoniAdagio In G Minor

It’s so tragic this piece. It was kind of the composer’s hit single, no-one knows any other music that he’s done really. It was used to great effect in the film Gallipoli – Peter Weir is one on my favourite directors – and it kind of ties into Killing Joke in a funny way. It’s used at the end, when all these young fellas are told they have to run into the machine guns, and wave after wave of them are dying, and they’re waiting for the whistle to be blown and they use this piece of music for the scene. In the early days of Killing Joke we used this idea of being manipulated into being in a war and having no control over your own destiny. It really illustrates the sadness of the human condition.
