When my brother Harry and I were exploring the Edinburgh Music Library in the early to mid-90s, one of the gems we discovered was Pirates Choice by these fellows, so named as it was the album that was most pirated on the streets of Paris and Dakar. This is one of those songs that after a while you get to know every sax line, every guitar riff, every whistle… I eventually saw them play in 2001, when they first reformed, but it was in a massive room in Glasgow, not fit for dancing, too echoey for listening. A shame, as this is ideal music for both. A handy DJ track also – at almost nine minutes it was spot-on for nipping off to the bar, a quick tab or a visit to the cludgie.
