4. Brian EnoThe Shutov Assembly

I could mention many Eno records, like Ambient 4: On Land…, but The Shutov Assembly is not as well-known, and it’s beautiful – it’s like a sound and light installation.

For me, it’s typical, ambient Eno. He is always on the edge of being kitsch or tacky, and also fantastic at the same time. He is always on this edge, but he masters being on this edge. For me, this record is a canvas or an exhibition with ten different pictures. It’s like he has chosen his palette with only a few colours, and he is doing something brilliant with it. There is a lot of finesse in this record.

Eno was very important for me – he is someone who typically makes the music go a step further without being a virtuoso. He is a bit of a theorist, but he’s also a man of action.
