I think her writing and singing gets better as the records go along: things get more personal, more intense. The music gets more divided, more abstract. I don’t know, it’s just a cool progression, a cool progression of records. I don’t know anyone else from that decade, actually I don’t know anyone else who has that lineage and that strength of vision. Certainly, not someone who comes out of a pop context, except maybe someone like Scott Walker.
