Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

Bob Dylan – Blood On The Tracks

There had to be a Dylan one and this is the one I’ve been going back to recently. ‘Tangled Up In Blue’ is one of the best Dylan songs, I think. The way it’s written from all of these different perspectives highlights him as a storyteller. It’s also a break-up record, a divorce record, and those are close to my heart, too. Having that real romantic, "Look, I made a record to get through it" thing is cool. His pain produced some pretty great songs. I got divorced five years ago. I was with my girlfriend in Austin and we were driving around in Texas listening to local country music on the radio and there was this new country song with the line, ‘I’m going through The Big D and I don’t mean Dallas’ [by Marc Chesnutt] and I was like: "I’m gonna make a divorce record when I come down here…" I don’t know if I did, but there are certainly some break-up songs on it.
