2. Mazzy StarShe Hangs Brightly

I don’t remember buying She Hangs Brightly. At some point I must have bought it. I probably read about it. ‘Give You My Lovin’, ‘Ride It On’, and ‘Halah’ would be my favourites on the album, but again, it all feels very much a cut from the same cloth. It’s mood music, “I feel like listening to She Hangs Brightly today, I’m in that mood.” And there’s another mood for Seventeen Seconds and another mood for all the other ones. I don’t think it sounds dated. When I think things sound timeless, usually they’re from the 90s, because I’m a bit of a 90s kid.

I’ve taken on board a lot from David Roback’s guitar playing. It’s kind of Doorsy. You don’t hear much music that’s Doors influenced and I absolutely loved The Doors. There’s a romance to Jim Morrison’s LA and then Robby Krieger is the Spanish inflection in the guitar playing. Roback and the other members of The Rain Parade were very influential on me, just because I hadn’t heard much of that kind of stuff.
