EC: Produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson and, oh, ‘Walk On The Wild Side’. What can I say? It’s a classic. 1972, I was… 16?

GM: You were 13 for most of the year, then 14 later. And I know where you first heard it because it’s where you first heard everybody.

EC: I bought it in Boots.

GM: But where did you hear it?

EC: John – Johnnie Walker! He died recently. He played it to death.

GM: And his show was in the middle of the day. Can you imagine? He was introducing you to things like this that you’d never heard before.

EC: And the lyrics! What can I say? The lyrics on ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ are kind of risky. And of course, ‘Vicious’ and ‘Goodnight Ladies’. I investigated Lou Reed a lot.

GM: You investigated again…

EC: I investigated all of them! Lou Reed and David Bowie. They were great.
