EC: ‘Born On The Bayou’, I think, and ‘Proud Mary’. That’s amazing. The Memphis guitar on it.

GM: I’d venture to suggest, as you became more and more interested I the guitar, that’s when Creedence came in.

EC: Yeah, that’s true enough.

GM: You’ve always said that John Fogerty is one of your absolute favourite guitar players, ever. When I first started working for you, you introduced me to Creedence’s back catalogue.

CE: Steven Daly, the drummer in the Orange Juice days and James Kirk, the guitar player, didn’t particularly like Creedence, but I did.

GM: I remember when I was first working for Edwyn, he did an interview with Guitarist magazine. He asked you your three favourites. Do you remember who you chose?

EC: Yes.

GM: Who did you choose?

EC: George Harrison, John Fogerty and – I can’t remember.

GM: Steve Cropper.

EC: Steve Cropper!

GM: Those were the three you chose. And this is going to sound ridiculous, because Edwyn taught me so much about music, but I didn’t know who the Stax house band were. And also to mention George Harrison as a guitar player – it really turned my brain around.

EC: He’s really good!
