The Gossip have always been a righteous Trojan Horse as a musical force, getting their politics into people’s faces via numerous mag appearances and an excellent cut of killer singles that strode roughshod over the later years of the last decade. They are also monumentally huge in Europe, where that albatross of Skins has not followed them. We’re pleased to note, then, that their new single has given said horse some pretty nifty chrome-plated pop shoes and a diamante bridle – yep, ‘Perfect World’ is a banger and no mistake, an EastEnders-bar-scene, high-street-clothes-shop-changing-room-sweat, supermarket-milk-shelf-stacker-whistler of the highest order.
