Kicking off tonight, the Terracotta Far East Film Festival runs until April 15 at London’s Prince Charles Cinema, bookended by the UK premieres of Second World War epic My Way (South Korea’s most expensive production to date) and Japanese dystopian future drama Himizu. The packed schedule boasts European unveilings for black comedy Inseparable, which stars Kevin Spacey as an American ex-pat who prevents his Chinese neighbour from committing suicide, and The Woodsman And The Rain, charting the friendship between a lonely lumberjack in rural Japan and a young zombie movie director. There’s further undead action late tomorrow in Zombie 108, the final part of a FrightFest co-hosted horror marathon also featuring apocalyptic ‘death stench’ anime Gyo and 2003 classic Ju-on: The Grudge. This triple-bill will be broken up by a costume competition and quiz.
Further highlights include elegiac Tibetan cycling adventure One Mile Above; Taiwanese tribal action flick Warriors Of The Rainbow: Seediq Bale, produced by John Woo; censor-eluding exile saga Return To Burma (the first feature ever to be shot in that nation); plus From Up On Poppy Hill, a new animated picture by Toyko’s legendary Studio Ghibli.
