Brooklyn-based producer The 83rd has just released his mash-up of ascendant New York MC Angel Haze’s recent cut ‘New York’ with Jamie xx’s ‘NY Is Killing Me’, from last year’s album with Gil Scott-Heron We’re New Here – have a listen to the appropriately-titled ‘New York’ below:
While ‘NY Is Killing Me’ has been seemingly remixed/spliced every which way possible, The 83rd’s matching of Haze’s sucker-punch vocal turn with the keyboard hook maximises its potency, leaving something that will, no doubt – and deservedly so – become massive.
Haze herself is one to watch. Having relocated to New York from her native Michigan, where she grew up in the Greater Apostolic Faith, which she describes as a "cult", the 21 year-old’s caused ripples with her recent EP, ‘Reservation’ (produced by The 83rd), which you can download here.
