Laurel Halo has announced the release of her debut full-length, due in May. Entitled Quarantine, it’s set for release through London stable Hyperdub.
If you’ve been following us much over the last year, you might well be aware of Halo. As well as a pair of stunning EPs through the Hippos In Tanks label last year – including Hour Logic, whose sublime sunken techno landed it a place in our favourite albums of 2011 – she has an upcoming 12" due for release through Mute’s new sub-label Liberation Technologies. The Spring EP is due out later this month, and finds her on more dancefloor-friendly form than anything she’s done so far. Based on her varied output so far, expect Quarantine to be something different again, but equally special.
Her signing to Hyperdub makes sense, given that the label’s been broadening its remit considerably over the past eighteen months or so. Her former labelmates at Hippos In Tanks, Hype Williams, released an EP for Hyperdub last year and also have an upcoming album for the label under the names Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland. The label’s on course for quite the year – as well as DVA’s just-released Pretty Ugly album and Burial’s Kindred EP, they’ve also got a pair of great upcoming EPs from King Britt and Walton.
