The UK’s Official Charts Company are trying to stay down with their kids by shaking up their Independent Charts for the first time since they were launched over 30 years ago.
Form June 29, a download or CD will be eligible for the Official Independent Charts if it is released on a label which is 50% or more owned by an independent company, irrespective of the distribution channel through which it is shipped or delivered.
This will be accompanied by the new Independent Breakers singles and album charts, which will be only open to artists who have not previously had a Top 20 hit in the UK, which would have benefited Quietus favourites Patrick Wolf and The Horrors in recent months.
