Trish Keenan, one half of Broadcast, tragically passed early this year. Her bandmate and partner James Cargill has spoken for the first time publicly about her death, in an interview with Under The Radar, and has revealed that he is working on a new Broadcast album and film soundtrack. They will use vocals recorded by Keenan before her death.
He told the interviewer: "Trish left a lot of tapes, four-tracks and stuff, and I’ve been going through those. It’s difficult, and I’m connected to it at the same time. It’s wonderful, but I’m also feeling a sense of loss."
The soundtrack is for Peter Strickland’s Berberian Sound Studio, a project which Broadcast had already started working on by the time of Keenan’s death. The new album, meanwhile, again involves contributions from Julian House (The Focus Group), who worked with Broadcast on their excellent Witch Cults Of The Radio Age mini album.
“Trish’s songs [on the new album] are really great," he said of the record. "They’re a bit more pastoral, almost a bit more like [2003 album] Haha Sound… They fit the pastoral, sort of folk thing… I think it might be a bit more like older sort of Broadcast.”
