Our favourite annual anthology of quality music writing is going independent and global this year.
The Best Music Writing series, formerly of Da Capo, will now be published by indie, Feedback Press but long term editor Daphne Carr will remain at the helm.
A board of ten guest editors will be charged with selecting the 100 best pieces of music related writing from the past year, which will then be whittled down to 30 – 40 articles by a guest editor which will be printed in the actual book later in the year.
The guest editor hasn’t been named yet but the board is comprised of Australian Adam Curley, who writes for Big Issue down under; Jewly Hight from North Carolina, a specialist in American folk; Miles Marshall Lewis, a New York based hip hop writer; Bongani Madondo, Senior Editor of Rolling Stone South Africa; the fearsome Michaelangelo Matos; Canadian hip hop writer Anupa Mistry; NPR pop expert Ann Powers; Editor in Chief of Pitchfork Mark Richardson; Alex Ross of The New Yorker and author of The Rest Is Noise; and our very own, inestimable Victoria Segal.
