CF: That record was another one that we played a lot at our loft in New York. I bought it strictly because it was on Island and it had an amazing cover. You could do that in those days. You could trust Island records to have great artists. That was our intro to dub music, along with another album we had, Dr Alimantado’s The Best Dressed Chicken In Town.

I know Brian Eno was also very influenced by it and this had a lot to do with the production techniques on Remain In Light. The artist records something and using the mixing console everything is arranged and altered in a way so that parts are dubbed in and out. It’s a sonic landscape that’s like a jungle.

It was very refreshing and a great relief after dancing the pogo at CBGB. We dug the beer and amphetamine music, but we also dug the reefer music.
