Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

11. Hope SandovalBavarian Fruit Bread

I didn’t really know about Mazzy Star before this so this was actually my first encounter with Hope Sandoval’s voice. She has a totally different way of singing to me and I just think it is so fascinating and special.

It was a live show in Oslo the first time I heard her and I came to know Bavarian Fruitbread after that. It was one of the producers of my debut – who went on to become my husband – who showed it to me. He [Dark, experimental ambient producer Helge Sten AKA Deathprod] had mixed some of the songs on it. So there’s several threads coming together with this album for me… Helge’s contribution, Bert Jansche’s guitar…

It’s an album I listen to a lot when I make my own albums. I just love the feel of it. It’s very inspiring. And it became my entrance into the music Mazzy Star and My Bloody Valentine too.
