6. Erykah BaduBaduizm

Erykah Badu was my first example of seeing a Black woman embracing her natural self and doing something a little sci-fi and mystical. It made me feel like, ‘OK, I can be weird. It’s OK!’ I always feel like she’s going to be an influence no matter what. And then it was a full circle moment when I opened up for André 3000 and she saw me perform, and then I even got to open up for her at one point, too, in LA. That was such an amazing experience. And afterwards she messaged me and she said, ‘You’re a cold bitch’. I just want to frame that message!
