11. Mobb DeepThe Infamous
Yeah, Mobb Deep… it’s a standard one innit? To be honest it could’ve been Enter The Wu-Tang, it could’ve been …Cuban Linx or Supreme Clientele, although I never had that same feeling for that. I chose The Infamous because it does represent a very specific part of my life – being quite young and smoking a lot of weed, in and out of the after parties thinking you were the boss. But at the same time I really love the moodiness and the weirdness of the production. Like ‘Shook Ones Pt. II’: I recently found out where the actual sample came from; it’s like some weird slowed down and the pitched back up Herbie Hancock sample. It sounds nothing like the original so they obviously twisted it but the production really took that weird New York oddness and aggressiveness to a different more minimal level.
And the interplay between Prodigy and Havoc is incredible, bruv. This is a really bait choice, but I don’t care. It’s one of the best albums of all time.
