Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

6. King Sunny AdéSynchro System

So, this was another album that I put here, because my father hated the album so much. He had some personal issues with King Sunny Adé at that time, I think. Just a little trivia, Martin Meissonnier was my father’s first manager, Sunny Adé’s first international manager, and my international manger. And he produced this record and my first record [Many Things]. And he was the first artist from Nigeria to receive a Grammy nomination that year [for the album, in 1983]. This was Sunny Adé’s first international release. This album is very well known among all African music enthusiasts. Michael Babalola on maracas was awesome. ‘Nuff said!
