10. Beck

For me, this is about the creative process. Again, I don’t know what the fuck this song is actually about. It’s probably a love song about feeling like your life is a bit meaningless without someone; but for me, it’s about writing, and how boring writing is. It’s just a series of uneventful days. Again, people don’t understand this, because often they see you on TV or at a literary festival doing something quite superficial, sociable, and glamorous. But writing is an incredibly isolated, boring process. The song always reminds me what it’s like writing.
