Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

8. BoredomsVision Creation Newsun

The first time I saw the Boredoms it was a full-on punk assault. I was turned onto them through my love of the Butthole Surfers, I found them through them being similar to that.

I don’t think I quite understood exactly what it was they were trying to do at the time but I thought it was just amazing. It was repetition, electronics, and punk rock all mashed up into one.

Later on Vision Creation Newsun was the important record for me, it had a real resonance with one song that kept coming back at you with a really weird energy. It was pure kraut repetition. We used to listen to it a lot on the road in the early days of Part Chimp, it is a great album to listen to while driving on the road.
