7. Tsegué-Maryam GuèbrouÉthiopiques Vol. 21

I was looking through iTunes at some point and I loved those Éthiopiques jazz records that were coming out at the time, around ’98 or something. There’s 40 volumes or so and you didn’t see a lot of women there but then I found Maryam, so I checked it out and it’s just the most haunted, beautiful, meandering piano that’s telling this story. The quality of the sound of her piano and her playing takes you to a totally different place and it’s so beautiful. It’s just the sound of an incredibly beautiful haunting.
