In the late 1990s I lived in Crown Point, Indiana about 50 miles south of downtown Chicago. I had a snappy little candy apple red pickup truck and in its CD player was Elvis Costello’s Imperial Bedroom… for nearly a year! Imperial Bedroom probably isn’t Elvis’ best record nor my favourite of his, but it’s chock full of some great highlights. I remember, for some weird reason, sliding the disc into the slot on my mom’s birthday, 22 March, and there it stayed until I extracted it right before New Year’s Eve! I reckon that’s a testament to Elvis’ staying power.
