Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. King Krule6 Feet Beneath The Moon

He strikes me as one of a lineage of true British eccentric outsider dudes who just do their thing. Ian Dury, Screaming Lord Sutch… there’s this lineage of people who are free artistic thinkers in a particular way. I can’t think of any American artists who do anything like that, except maybe Lambchop. They just end up doing something that’s completely and uniquely themselves in such an independent way. That’s what has always struck me about music out of the UK – its independence. It’s not something you’d always find on a major label. There’s a way of putting out music that’s outside of that – you’d put stuff out yourself with a notion of independence, and that’s something that America adopted, but it seems to have existed for much longer in the United Kingdom.
